Erectile Dysfunction (Sildenafil) Consultation
Erectile Dysfunction (Sildenafil) Consultation — Hillsborough, Auckland
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is more common than most people realise — and it's nothing to be embarrassed about. At Corner Pharmacy on Dominion Road Extension, Hillsborough, we offer a discreet, confidential consultation with a trained pharmacist to help you access the right treatment, without needing to see a doctor.
What Is Erectile Dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get or maintain an erection firm enough for sex. It becomes more common with age, but it can affect men at any stage of life. Symptoms can include:
- Being able to get an erection sometimes, but not consistently
- Getting an erection that doesn't last long enough
- Being unable to get an erection at all
What Causes ED?
ED often has a physical cause — most commonly, reduced blood flow due to blocked or narrowed blood vessels. Contributing factors include:
- Smoking
- High cholesterol
- Being overweight or obese
- Diabetes
- Lack of exercise
ED can also have emotional or psychological causes, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, or performance anxiety. In some cases, it may be a side effect of certain medications. Often, it's a combination of both physical and psychological factors.
Sildenafil — Available Without a Prescription
The good news is that sildenafil — also known by the brand names Silvasta, Viagra, Avigra, and Vedafil — is available at Corner Pharmacy without a prescription, following a short, confidential consultation with one of our trained pharmacists.
Here's what to expect:
- First consultation: approximately 20 minutes, including a brief health check and blood pressure reading
- Repeat supply: only a few minutes, provided your health hasn't changed since your last visit
Sildenafil is not suitable for all men. It may not be appropriate if you are taking certain medications, or if you have recently had a heart attack or stroke. Our pharmacist will ask a few general health questions to confirm it's safe and suitable for you.
Lifestyle Changes That Can Help
Alongside medication, certain lifestyle changes can make a real difference to ED:
- Weight management — ED is more common in men who are overweight or have a waist measurement above 92cm (37 inches). Losing weight has been shown to reduce ED symptoms
- Quit smoking — smoking is directly linked to an increased risk of ED. Stopping smoking can improve symptoms and has wide-ranging health benefits
- Exercise regularly — improving cardiovascular health supports better blood flow, which is key to erectile function
Ask our team about our Weight Management Service and Smoking Cessation Consultation if you'd like support in these areas too.
