Directions for Use

1. Take as directed by your doctor – typically one tablet once daily in the evening.
2. Swallow whole with water.
3. May be taken with or without food.
4. Continue taking even if you feel well, unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Important Safety Information

• Prescription required: This medicine is only available with a valid prescription from a New Zealand-registered doctor. You will be required to provide your prescription before this item is dispensed.
• Muscle damage (Myopathy/Rhabdomyolysis): Contact your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness or dark urine. This may be a sign of a serious muscle condition.
• Liver effects: Simvastatin may affect liver function. Your doctor may monitor your liver with blood tests during treatment.
• Drug interactions: Simvastatin has significant interactions with many medicines including certain antibiotics (e.g. erythromycin, clarithromycin), antifungals, HIV medicines, amiodarone, verapamil, diltiazem and grapefruit juice. Inform your doctor and pharmacist of all medicines you are taking.
• Grapefruit: Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while taking Simvastatin as it can increase the risk of side effects.
• Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Simvastatin may harm an unborn baby. Use effective contraception during treatment.
